Why tattoos? This Art has been used for centuries to communicate not only information but our ideas, expressions and interpretations of ourselves and the world. Many theorists have interpreted our ability to create art as one of the earliest expressions of human consciousness that sets us apart from any other species.
In this book we explore how a person’s tattoo often reflect concepts of ancient theories of traditional Chinese medicine. As artist expression can be as varied as the canvases available, the one that may be the most revealing of human consciousness is the one that is placed on ourselves in the form of tattoos.
About the authors.
Dr. Fujio McPherson
Lieutenant Colonel (US Army Retired), DAOM, ARNP, is the current director of the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine (AIM) Institute in Olympia, Washington. He continues to provide an integrative approach to care as a Nurse Practitioner combining his love of Traditional Chinese and Allopathic Medicine. He also combines aspects of other traditions through his certification in Ayurvedic medicine, and Genetics, and current training in Functional Medicine, while offering opportunities for other to study world medicines abroad through AIM Institute.
Dr. Marina Ponton-Arena
has a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oregon College of the Oriental Medicine. She has been in private practice since 1998. Her practice focuses on helping others achieve and maintain their optimal health. Through her career her passionate belief in healing the body through natural methods has led her to practice, teach and lecture in the United States, Sweden and Holland. She has studied at the American University of Paris, FAMU University in Prague, University of Miami, and The Atlantic Institute of Oriental Medicine.
